In a recent update, the Thai government is planning to reintroduce INR 750 tourism tax soon. The news was shared by the newly appointed tourism minister, Sorawong Thienthong. The minister has announced plans to revive the tourism tax set at 300 baht (approximately INR 750).
The new tourism minister Sorawong took office on September 16, 2024. He soon expressed his desire to boost tourism in Thailand. He has committed to boosting tourism revenue of the country to at least 3 trillion baht within one year. With this, the minister hopes this tourism fee would significantly benefit the industry. The revenue generated is intended for enhancing infrastructure, developing tourist attractions, and ensuring the safety of visitors.
However, he has indicated that additional time will be necessary to evaluate the best way to implement the tax before proceeding.
