Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the much-awaited underground Pune Metro corridor on September 26, extending services from Civil Court to Swargate. In addition to this, he will lay the foundation stone for a new elevated route.

Key Highlights of the Pune Metro Route Inauguration:

The newly inaugurated underground stretch will allow commuters to travel seamlessly from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate, passing through key stations like Budhwar Peth, Manda, and the District Court. This extension aims to alleviate traffic congestion and provide a smooth commuting experience for the growing population of Pune.

Project Scope and Benefits:

The PCMC-Swargate corridor spans 17.4 kilometers and includes 14 metro stations, significantly improving connectivity for thousands of daily passengers. The government also has plans for future expansions, extending the route further from PCMC to Nigdi and from Swargate to Katraj.

PM Modi’s Pune Visit and Upcoming Plans:

During his visit, PM Modi will not only inaugurate the underground Metro corridor but will also participate in the groundbreaking ceremony (‘bhumipujan’) for another elevated route in the city. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed that this project will play a vital role in transforming Pune into a premier urban center, enhancing both its transportation infrastructure and its livability.

Swargate Metro Station:

One of the highlights of the new line is the proposed entrance at Ganesh Kala Mandir, aimed at accommodating the heavy footfall from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. In the future, commuters will benefit from enhanced connectivity between the Swargate Metro station, MSRTC buses, PMPML services, and the Metro.

As Pune embraces these new developments, the city is poised to set new benchmarks in urban transportation.
