Late last night, smoke was seen billowing from the tail of a Dubai-bound Emirates flight stationed on the tarmac at Chennai airport. The smoke, originating from the engine compartment of the Boeing 777, raised concerns as ground staff noticed the issue before passengers had boarded the aircraft.Footage captured at the scene shows a plume of white smoke emerging from the tail, reportedly due to overfilling. The ground crew quickly responded, notifying the pilots, who promptly shut down the engines to prevent the situation from escalating. Fire engines were immediately dispatched to the scene, ensuring the safety of surrounding areas as the smoke drifted toward another parked aircraft.”Ground staff acted swiftly, and the pilots shut down the engines as a precautionary measure. Fire engines were mobilized to ensure safety, and the passengers were temporarily deplaned for a thorough safety inspection,” an official at Chennai airport confirmed.Around 300 passengers were scheduled to board the flight, which was set to depart at 10 PM. However, the incident caused a delay of over two hours, and the flight eventually took off at 12:30 AM. Fortunately, no passengers were aboard the plane when the incident occurred, and there were no reports of injuries. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation authority, has launched an inquiry into the incident. Emirates, in a statement, apologized for the delay and reassured passengers, saying, “Following an engineering inspection, the aircraft was cleared for departure to Dubai. We apologize for the inconvenience, but the safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority.”
